ââHello and welcome to Peak Gravel Gang!
We are a women-led, fun, friendly, off-road cycling group. Weâre all about social riding, getting to know each other and challenging ourselves in a relaxed and supportive environment.
We aim to do at least two weekend rides per month, if not more, and the occasional night ride. We always ride at party pace and never leave anyone behind. And it goes without saying that we always have a café stop.
Weâre particularly passionate about creating a safe space for women, non-binary and LBTQ+ folk, so if youâre wondering if this group is for you, then it is!
Weâll provide the scenic routes, friendly ride leaders, answers to any questions and even a bike if need be. All we ask is that you come along and give it a go!
Rides & Socials:
Our weekend rides start at various locations in and around the Peak District to give as many people as possible the opportunity to come to our rides. We also aim to start/finish near public transport links and/or car parks so itâs easy to join us if youâre a little further afield.
Our routes vary in length from 10 to 35 km and some are hillier than others, so (as weâre never in a rush to get round and we love to have a chat at the cafe) weâd recommend setting aside a good 3 hours to join us. We stick together, stop when we need to and enjoy the ride at a pace that suits the whole group. When the weatherâs good enough, weâll hang out at the end of the ride and have a natter and a drink.
If you want to join our rides you can find the details on our social media or via out WhatsApp group.
Common questions:
How often do you ride?
We aim to organise at least two weekend rides per month, and have the occasional night ride. If we have lots of leaders available, then weâll put on more rides. Weâre working hard on scheduling rides as far in advance as possible, so you can get them in your diary and organise any other commitments you might have.
Will I be too slow?
Absolutely not. Peak Gravel Gang is about adventure and socialising (and eating cake), not speed. We ride at whatever pace keeps the group together; affectionately referred to as party pace! We walk if need be and, on certain routes, we have optional workarounds to avoid trickier terrain.
What do I need to bring?
We recommend the following items for all our rides: A warm layer, a waterproof, plenty of snacks, water, a helmet, inner tube and a pump, gloves and bike lights (if itâs foggy). But donât worry if you donât have all these bits yet, we can lend them to you! We bring a supply of spares and layers with us to every ride, but if you know in advance you need something in particular, please donât hesitate to get in contact.
How hard are the rides?
We plan our rides so that regardless of your riding experience, youâll be able to come and join us. We do classify some rides as easier than others â these will usually be slightly shorter and flatter, and happen on the first ride of each month. Subsequent rides will be slightly longer and might have a more challenging climb thrown in or a bit of rougher trail. But, we always stick together and we encourage everyone to get off and push whenever they want to.
Do I need to sign up?
No – just show up ready to ride!
Don’t be shy – say hi!
