Peak Gravel Gang – Evening Winter Warmer
Come join our annual Winter Warmer – a fun, informal social open to friendly folk who like to ride bikes. Everyone welcome.
As the days get colder and the nights get darker, we’re embracing the chilly weather by throwing our annual winter social.
The PGG Winter Warmer is on Saturday 14th December. This year we’ll be kicking things off with an easy gravel ride in the morning from Bamford, then later going into party mode at Grasshopper in Hope.
You ONLY need a ticket to attend the evening social. You do not need a ticket to join us on the ride. Your ticket includes your main meal. Drinks and desserts can be bought separately on the day. We have a number of subsidized tickets available for those who need them – if that’s you, drop an email to [email protected].
WHO CAN COME?
Friendly, kind folk who like bikes! We’re women-led and here to enjoy riding our bikes with like-minded people. Everyone is welcome.
You can come to as much or as little as you like of the day. You only need a ticket for the evening.
ABOUT THE RIDE:
We’re splitting the ride and social this year to give more people the chance to join for part of the day and to give us all the chance to ride in the daylight. You do not need a ticket to join the ride and can decide to join on the day.
We will be gathering from 9:30 and setting off at 10:00 am from the recreational ground in Bamford just up from the station.
The route will be around 20 km of smooth rolling, car-free terrain. There will be a few small undulations; however, this is an ‘any-bike-will-do’ ride, and we’ll be keeping the pace steady so no one is left behind.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE RIDE:
A bike you’d be happy to ride off-road – if you have questions about this or need to hire a bike, drop us a message.
Warm layers, waterproofs, and gloves – it’s December, and we’re going to be going steady and stopping for snacks.
A helmet, inner tube, and pump.
Snacks, water, and a smile!
Extra points for fairy lights or a festive jumper!
If you are missing anything or something is preventing you from riding, please get in touch – we can help.
ABOUT THE SOCIAL:
After the ride, there will be a gap before the social to give local people the chance to change and get dry, or those coming from further afield the opportunity to explore – there are plenty of great cafes and fun things going on at this time of year.
Then at 6:30 pm, we’ll be heading to Grasshopper Cafe in Hope to get warm and enjoy some delicious food. This is an informal ‘do’ – we’ll pop on some tunes and stick up some paper chains.
OTHER INFO:
If you are driving, there is plenty of parking available in Hope; Bamford is more limited so car sharing might be sensible if that is an option for you. Both are very easy to reach on the train.
Grasshopper has one gender-neutral toilet. There is some space to lock bikes around the back; however, not 50 of them! So if you have the chance to leave your bike at home or elsewhere, that would be ideal!
